BOSTON — March 14, 2024 — Bullhorn, the global leader in software for the staffing and recruitment industry, today announced the launch of its new AI solution, Bullhorn Copilot. Bullhorn Copilot will span the entire Bullhorn platform, beginning with Copilot Starter, a set of generative AI capabilities embedded directly in recruiters’ ATS/CRM. Copilot Starter debuted at the Bullhorn Engage event in Sydney today ahead of an April product release.

Like many others, the staffing industry quickly adopted generative AI in 2023, with 55% of staffing firms reporting that they have experimented with AI, according to a recent Bullhorn survey of staffing professionals worldwide. While the adoption of AI is still in its earliest stages, firms that experimented with AI in 2023 were already 31% more likely to see revenue gains than firms that have not begun experimenting with AI

Bullhorn’s unparalleled access to data on recruitment outcomes fuels AI investment

Bullhorn Copilot will span the entire Bullhorn platform, with AI-driven capabilities embedded directly into recruiters’ workflows. Bullhorn’s approach will apply AI technology to three categories designed specifically to serve the needs of staffing firms: generative AI, source and match AI, and directive AI.

  • Generative AI will help recruiters write content and messages more efficiently and effectively.
  • Source and match AI will help recruiters and sales teams find the best candidates and jobs, allowing them not only to identify candidates that match search terms the recruiter enters, as they do today, but also to predict which candidates are most likely to be placed successfully.
  • Directive AI will help staffing professionals identify the most appropriate next step in their work, informed by past successful outcomes.

Copilot allows staffing professionals to harness the benefits of AI right in the workflows they’re already using every day. At the same time, they are able to benefit from the wealth of centralized data and industry expertise within Bullhorn: using prompts informed by Bullhorn’s understanding of staffing, leveraging algorithms that learn from the successes of the most productive recruiters, and being able to apply these insights across all aspects of the business. With 4.4 million placements made in the Bullhorn ATS alone in 2023, machine learning capabilities deployed within the Bullhorn platform are trained on an unparalleled volume of real job placement outcomes.

Generative AI capabilities are the first to launch, with additional source-and-match and directive AI capabilities to follow later in 2024 and 2025.

Copilot Starter offers generative AI purpose-built for staffing

Copilot Starter, the first set of these new capabilities, puts generative AI functionality directly into the ATS to allow recruiters to draft candidate communications faster and more thoroughly. Using data they have already entered into the system, recruiters can craft more accurate and relevant communications, instead of building their own AI prompts in a second application. Copilot Starter uses generative AI to help recruiters with the following tasks:

  • Creating pre-screening questions
  • Drafting rejection messages
  • Pitching a candidate for a job
  • Updating a candidate’s resume
  • Summarizing a candidate’s profile
  • Creating a client pitch
  • Improving a message to a candidate

Copilot supports integrations to multiple AI providers, allowing staffing firms to evaluate and choose the LLM provider that best suits their business needs. Bullhorn Copilot will unlock new levels of quality and productivity, allowing junior recruiters to operate at the level of seasoned professionals and enabling experienced recruiters to work faster with greater accuracy.

Bullhorn has partnered closely with customers on early adoption of this functionality to understand where AI can add the most value for their firms. IT and healthcare staffing firm IDR has been using Copilot Starter for four months. “The job duties that I want employees to be focused on are more of a priority now, because they can hand off some administrative tasks to Copilot. With Copilot, they have their own assistant sitting at their desk with them every day,” said Will Hayes, Chief Operating Officer at IDR. “I’m starting to see improvements in ramp up time with staff and in the amount of training in some administrative areas that we don’t have to invest as many resources into.”

“Bullhorn’s approach to incorporating AI into our platform is deeply informed by nearly 25 years of experience serving the staffing industry. We have the ability to build AI directly into staffing workflows with the appropriate context to achieve the highest impact for both recruiters and talent,” said Matt Fischer, President and Chief Operating Officer at Bullhorn. “The extensive scope of recruitment data in our platform allows us to train AI to meet the specific needs of staffing firms, and we’re keeping compliance and privacy top of mind in the process.”

Staffing firms that adopted automation and AI were more likely to grow in 2023 https://www.bullhorn.com/news-and-press/press-releases/grid-2024-industry-trends-report/ Thu, 29 Feb 2024 14:00:27 +0000 https://www.bullhorn.com/?post_type=press_release&p=91414 55% of staffing firms are experimenting with AI, according to Bullhorn research

BOSTON — February 29, 2024 —  Although 2023 was a challenging economic climate for the staffing and recruitment industry, firms that adopted AI and automation technologies and improved productivity were more likely to see revenue gains, according to Bullhorn’s Global Recruitment Insights and Data (GRID) 2024 Industry Trends Report.

In 2023, the number of staffing firms reporting revenue growth declined for the first time in three years. Despite market headwinds, 17% of survey respondents still saw revenue increase by greater than 10%. These high-performing staffing firms had something in common: they were further in their digital transformation journeys and shared a focus on increasing productivity and efficiency.

High performers are experimenting with AI

Across the global recruitment landscape, 55% of firms began experimenting with AI in 2023. While the adoption of AI is still in its earliest stages, those firms experimenting with AI were 31% more likely to see revenue gains than firms that have not begun experimenting with AI. High-performing firms had higher adoption rates of AI tools overall, suggesting their early adoption of AI further enhanced their productivity and profitability. These firms were more than twice as likely to report using AI-driven tools for shift scheduling and credentialing and 1.5 times as likely to be using it for gathering client requirements.

High performers used more advanced automations

Firms that saw revenue growth were 2.4 times as likely to use automation. These high-performing firms used automation to gather client requirements and screen candidates, creating a smoother experience for all. Respondents who reported “excellent” success at winning new business were three times as likely to use self-service tools, and firms that saw revenue increases were also 23% more likely to have automated new lead engagement.

High performers drove more top-of-funnel activity

Firms that saw the highest revenue gains used technology to move candidates through the recruitment process faster and ultimately make more placements. They did so in part by enhancing job classification and talent segmentation to more quickly match candidates with the right roles. The highest-performing firms placed candidates in less than 20 days and were also 40% more likely to improve their conversion rates.

Getting ahead of the competition remains a priority in 2024

The top challenge for 2024 reported by survey respondents is uncertainty over the economy and future growth (cited by 60% of respondents), although two-thirds of firms expect the economy to improve in 2024 and 65% expect their revenue to increase this year. Aligned with this outlook, the top priority of staffing firms this year is winning new business (cited by 44% of respondents), followed by digital transformation, candidate acquisition, and strengthening client relationships (each cited by 30% of respondents). Another challenge that gained increased importance this year was competition from online freelance/gig platforms, with 40% of respondents citing this as a top challenge, compared with just 12% in 2022.

“Last year was a challenging one for many staffing firms, but as we look ahead to a brighter future, there are some lessons that the entire recruitment industry should pay attention to,” said Gretchen Keefner, SVP, Global Enterprise Business at Bullhorn. “Staffing firms that make the most of technologies such as AI and automation are, and will be, in a better position to lower margins, increase productivity, and differentiate their businesses from the competition. Forward-thinking firms are looking at technology to help candidates find the best-fitting roles, help clients get workers on the job faster, and win more clients.”

Bullhorn acquires Mployee to help recruitment agencies accelerate their digital transformation journey https://www.bullhorn.com/news-and-press/press-releases/bullhorn-acquires-mployee/ Fri, 05 Jan 2024 14:30:07 +0000 https://www.bullhorn.com/?post_type=press_release&p=90723 The addition of this technology will help Bullhorn deliver an end-to-end enterprise solution for customers on the Salesforce platform

BOSTONJanuary 5, 2024 — Bullhorn®, the global leader in software for the staffing and recruitment industry, today announced its acquisition of Mployee, a provider of Salesforce-based solutions for recruitment agencies, which is headquartered in the Netherlands. Mployee’s technology will accelerate Bullhorn’s vision to deliver a full, end-to-end, enterprise solution for Bullhorn customers using the Salesforce platform.

Mployee expands Bullhorn’s Salesforce-based enterprise offerings

Uncertainty over the economy, pricing pressure, and fewer job orders have all forced the recruitment industry to streamline internal operations as much as possible this year. Centralizing all recruitment activity on a single platform helps agencies gain those efficiencies. As a result, Bullhorn has seen a significant increase in adoption of the Salesforce platform, especially in Europe. It is now the largest independent software vendor (ISV) for Salesforce serving the recruitment industry. Bullhorn revenue on the Salesforce platform has grown at an average annual rate of nearly 30% since 2019.

Bullhorn products on the Salesforce platform are currently used across 40 countries, including by four of the five largest global recruitment agencies. By combining Mployee’s middle-office capabilities with Bullhorn’s front-office, Bullhorn can offer a true enterprise-grade, end-to-end solution built on the Salesforce platform. This solution will help solve a myriad of front- and middle-office challenges inhibiting agencies’ growth and differentiation.

Together, Bullhorn and Mployee will help global recruitment agencies excel

“We’ve seen tremendous growth in customers using Bullhorn for Salesforce globally in recent years, and this acquisition will help us better support those agencies throughout the world in delivering more efficient middle-office operations,” said Matt Fischer, President and Chief Operating Officer at Bullhorn. “We’re excited at the potential of combining Mployee’s offerings with Bullhorn for Salesforce to deliver a full, end-to-end solution.”

“We’re very excited to join Bullhorn to further our efforts to drive the digital revolution of the staffing industry,” said Mployee CEO Karen Weebers. “Bullhorn has the resources to invest in Mployee’s product roadmap and bring our solutions to even more recruitment agencies.”

Contingent workers are 50% more likely to be loyal to staffing firms that provide a smooth hiring experience https://www.bullhorn.com/news-and-press/press-releases/contingent-workers-are-50-more-likely-to-be-loyal-to-staffing-firms-that-provide-a-smooth-hiring-experience/ Wed, 08 Nov 2023 14:00:27 +0000 https://www.bullhorn.com/?post_type=press_release&p=90220 New research from Bullhorn highlights the factors that will increase talent’s likelihood to work with a staffing firm again

Nov. 8, 2023 — BOSTON — Contingent workers expect a smooth experience at every stage of the recruitment lifecycle, according to new data from Bullhorn, the global leader in software for the staffing and recruitment industry. Out of more than 1,000 contingent workers surveyed globally, 68% of contingent workers would work with their staffing firm again, an increase from 57% of contingent workers surveyed in 2022. But there’s still opportunity to improve: meeting talent expectations at each stage of the hiring process stands to increase that loyalty significantly.

Overall, contingent workers appear more satisfied with their experience working with staffing firms. In 2023, 57% of contingent workers are considering leaving temporary work for full-time employment if it is available, down from 64% in 2022. Still, with an increase in employers’ reliance on contingent labor and a persistent talent shortage, it’s more important than ever for staffing firms to exceed candidates’ expectations and increase the likelihood that they will want to work with a firm again. The GRID 2023 Talent Trends Report identified key areas in which firms can do that by delivering a smooth recruitment process from start to finish.

Candidates’ experience throughout recruitment process impacts loyalty

Candidates were clear that at every stage of the recruitment process, a smooth experience would increase their likelihood of working with a firm by about 50%. At each of the stages below, a positive experience showed a corresponding increase in the likelihood that candidates would work with a firm again:

  • Job search: 27% increase
  • Interview process: 44% increase
  • Filling out forms: 57% increase
  • Job fit: 48% increase
  • Logging and submitting time: 35% increase

Candidates expect frequent communication before and during assignments

Responsiveness is key to retaining talent: candidates are 73% more likely to keep working with a staffing firm if they found their recruiter to provide prompt communication. Whether during the recruitment process or while on assignment, 60% of candidates expect to hear from their recruiter at least once a week; if recruiters meet this expectation, then 84% of candidates would work with them again. When it comes to candidates’ preferred communication channel, email still reigns supreme, with 44% of all candidates listing it as their top choice — although it’s important to pay attention to local preferences, as approximately one-quarter of candidates preferred WhatsApp or other app notifications in Europe. Meanwhile, 30% of candidates stopped working with a staffing firm if they didn’t receive enough communication from their recruiter.

Fast and accurate job placement matters

When asked why they chose to work with a staffing firm, 31% of workers said it was because the firm had access to the jobs they wanted, making this the top reason. Delivering on this perception pays off: there was a 48% increase in a worker’s willingness to work with a firm again if the recruiter found jobs that were a good fit. Speed is also a priority when talent choose to work with a staffing firm. Nearly three-quarters of candidates (72%) indicated they want to be placed in a job within four weeks of their first contact with a firm – and 22% actually hope to be placed within a week. Most staffing firms fall somewhere in between these ranges, taking about two weeks, according to Bullhorn data. It is worth noting that 62% of candidates stopped working with a staffing firm for reasons related to speed: either the process was taking too long or they found another job before the firm was able to complete the process.

“As staffing firms strive to retain business and improve their margins, it’s more important than ever to cultivate a loyal community of satisfied talent,” said Andre Mileti, Product Evangelist, Talent Experience at Bullhorn. “The firms that succeed in this climate will be those that can place candidates in the right jobs quickly, while offering a convenient, consumer-grade experience. And the recruiters who will be able to do this best are those who have the right talent-facing technologies accompanying their efforts.”

Bullhorn expands healthcare business with key customer wins and product investments in 2023 https://www.bullhorn.com/news-and-press/press-releases/bullhorn-expands-healthcare-business-with-key-customer-wins-and-product-investments-in-2023/ Tue, 31 Oct 2023 13:15:17 +0000 https://www.bullhorn.com/?post_type=press_release&p=90154 New capabilities will get healthcare professionals cleared for work faster and help maximize profitability for staffing firms

Oct. 31, 2023 — BOSTON — Bullhorn, the global leader in software for the staffing and recruitment industry, today announced new product capabilities for its healthcare solution and an expanding healthcare customer base. An increasing number of healthcare staffing firms rely on Bullhorn solutions to put healthcare professionals to work, including 21 of the top 25 healthcare staffing firms. As these firms face challenging factors from tight margins to wage inflation, Bullhorn solutions maximize efficiency along the entire staffing workflow to grow profitability and increase compliance, from the recently released Compliance Manager, which helps get healthcare providers cleared for work faster, to new capabilities that increase efficiency.

Growing healthcare staffing customer base includes top firms

Bullhorn Healthcare solutions support some of the largest healthcare staffing firms in the U.S., and the customer base continues to grow rapidly. To date in 2023, Bullhorn has added 40 new healthcare staffing customers. Bullhorn healthcare customers made 33,000 placements per month on average in the past year.*

Atlas MedStaff, among the fastest-growing U.S. staffing firms, has invested in multiple Bullhorn solutions for thousands of traveling healthcare professionals. Rich Smith, co-founder and Chief Marketing Officer at Atlas MedStaff, credits Bullhorn with supporting his firm’s success with Bullhorn One, a solution that helps increase efficiency and empower better decision-making throughout the entire staffing firm, from sales and recruiting to payroll and billing to management. “Without Bullhorn One and the partnership that we have with Bullhorn, I don’t think we would have grown as quickly as we did. I believe that under any other system, it would have slowed us down.”

Gold-standard credential management clears providers for work faster

Bullhorn’s product investments in 2023 aim to address some of healthcare staffing’s most pressing challenges, including the onboarding and credentialing process. In a Bullhorn survey, 38% of staffing professionals deemed the greatest challenge of credentialing to be its manual and time-consuming nature, while 28% found the greatest issue to be that technology for managing these processes is not tailored to support healthcare. Healthcare providers are equally challenged by manual credentialing processes and inefficient technology, which require them to fax or email credentials for every new position. Most would prefer a single place to consistently upload or update their credentials.

Bullhorn’s new Compliance Manager helps credentialing teams and staffing leadership gain full visibility into the compliance status of their workforce and understand where to focus their efforts to clear providers for work faster. A dashboard within the ATS shows the credential status of providers overall, and each placement includes a checklist of compliance-related requirements. Credentialing specialists store and share credentials from a single location for ease of access and have the ability to track expiring credentials. Compliance Manager is also open to integration with Bullhorn Marketplace partners, allowing staffing firms to use additional tools to manage their overall compliance within the same workflow. This complements a suite of compliance-related functionality built in the Bullhorn platform over the past five years to achieve a gold standard in credential management.

“The credentialing process has been a journey for RNnetwork,” said Amy Reed, VP of Operational Strategy at CHG Healthcare, a parent company of RNnetwork. “Bullhorn’s earliest credentialing capabilities were a tremendous change in allowing our team to see all of the documentation that they needed for credentialing in one place. And with the addition of further credentialing such as automation and collecting documentation, our team is now completing credentialing about 65% faster than they used to.”

“We’ve cleared a lot more people on time by using the credentialing in Bullhorn and being able to get our travelers to the clients a lot faster than we originally said they could be there,” said Cecilia Merrill, Director of Operations at CrossMed Healthcare. “In five months, we increased our cleared rate from 79% of providers to 91%.”

New capabilities maximize efficiency and profitability

With new Time & Labor capabilities on the Bullhorn platform, staffing firms can efficiently configure pay and bill rules to meet the unique needs of healthcare clients. Once providers begin their placements, a robust time interpretation engine helps them get paid easily and accurately. Integrated into Bullhorn One, Time & Labor introduces new healthcare-specific rules like holiday schedules, orientation, low census, guaranteed minimum hours, and more to meet complex billing requirements and make it easier for billing specialists to build out reports.

For customers on the Salesforce platform, several new capabilities provide greater efficiency and flexibility for providers and recruiters alike, including the following:

  • Easier scheduling: A redesigned scheduling tool supports float pool management and makes it easier for schedulers to assign healthcare professionals to open shifts.
  • Convenient tools for providers: A new mobile app allows providers to upload credentials, manage their availability, accept or decline shifts, and request work.
  • Flexible candidate sourcing: A new search and match experience gives recruiters more flexibility to search for candidates, match them to roles, and generate leads.

Bullhorn is continuously investing in new capabilities to better serve healthcare staffing firms, so that they can maximize profitability and operational efficiency throughout the staffing and recruiting workflow. “We recognize that it’s more important than ever for healthcare staffing firms to operate more efficiently,” said Jason Niad, VP, Product, Healthcare at Bullhorn. “We continue to invest in finding solutions that ease complicated compliance and billing requirements and other acute challenges facing these businesses, all to help firms offer a better experience for providers and clients alike and maximize the profitability of their business.”

Bullhorn launches new Universal Search and Match service in Bullhorn for Salesforce https://www.bullhorn.com/news-and-press/press-releases/bullhorn-for-salesforce-launches-new-universal-search-and-match-service/ Tue, 12 Sep 2023 13:00:34 +0000 https://www.bullhorn.com/?post_type=press_release&p=89237 The new functionality will help improve lead generation and candidate sourcing

September 12, 2023BOSTON — Bullhorn, the global leader in software for the staffing and recruitment industry, today announced the launch of its new Universal Search and Match (USAM) functionality within the Bullhorn for Salesforce product suite.

In today’s tight labor market there is an abundant talent shortage, and firms that provide talent services are challenged to find the best talent with the right skill set to fill open roles. According to Bullhorn’s GRID 2023 Industry Trends Report, talent acquisition remains the top challenge for staffing firms globally in 2023. In an effort to address these challenges, Bullhorn has released a new Universal Search and Match capability to accelerate the sourcing and placing of top talent more effectively with AI recruiting tools for lead generation and talent sourcing.

Bullhorn for Salesforce is the industry-leading applicant tracking system built natively on the Salesforce platform, powering many of the largest staffing, recruitment, executive search, and talent services organizations globally. With this new capability, USAM delivers a fully configurable search and match experience that makes sourcing easier, faster, and more flexible for recruiters. With this expanded functionality, recruiters can now search for candidates throughout the application, to streamline the recruitment process and improve desk-level productivity.

Traditional search and match tools are usually a one-size-fits-all solution, but with Universal Search and Match, the customer has full control to configure the search and match experience to their organizational needs. They can also extend the user experience without needing system integrators or third-party providers.

Bullhorn Vice President of Product Marketing, Global Enterprise, and Salesforce Jeff Neumann said, “We wanted to develop a new approach to support staffing and recruitment agencies of all sizes and service models across our diverse, global customer base. Staffing firms that saw the highest growth in 2022 leveraged automation and digitization https://www.bullhorn.com/news-and-press/press-releases/grid-2023-industry-trends-report/ Tue, 28 Feb 2023 14:00:34 +0000 https://www.bullhorn.com/?post_type=press_release&p=86487 Bullhorn’s annual global recruitment survey found the firms with the highest revenue gains were twice as likely to use these technologies as those who saw revenue losses

BOSTON, February 28, 2023 – While most staffing and recruitment firms saw growth in 2022, certain practices were more likely to separate those who saw the highest gains in revenue from those who suffered revenue losses, according to Bullhorn’s Global Recruitment Insights and Data (GRID) 2023 Industry Trends Report

Firms with the highest revenue gains were twice as likely to have digitized their data as those with the greatest revenue losses and nearly twice as likely to use automation heavily. While 77% of staffing firms have begun implementing a digital transformation strategy, many are still in the early stages. Only 30% said they use self-service technologies such as chatbots to streamline operations and engage candidates, and only 17% heavily leverage automation throughout their business.

More than two-thirds (68%) of global recruitment firms reported an increase in revenue last year, and a similar number (67%) expect to improve performance again in 2023.

Winning new business becomes the top priority

For the first time in six years, staffing firms cite winning new clients (40%) as this year’s top priority, most likely due to continued economic uncertainty and intensifying competition. The second biggest priority is digital transformation (34%), followed closely by candidate acquisition (33%).

Despite feeling optimistic about their business growth prospects, global recruitment firms continue to face client-related challenges. The most pressing is an increase in job requisitions that are too specialized or demanding (according to 22% of respondents), followed by a reduction in overall job requisitions (17%), and a lack of communication from clients (15%).

Engaging existing talent leads to higher revenue gains

Candidate acquisition remains a challenge: 56% cite the talent shortage as a top challenge in 2023, an increase from last year. However, firms that followed certain best practices in engaging candidates were 30% or more likely to report revenue gains in 2022. These best practices include engaging with passive candidates in the firm’s database, soliciting referrals from candidates, and using candidates’ preferred methods of communication, among others.

The two practices most correlated with success were redeploying candidates and database utilization. The firms that lined up the highest proportion of workers for new roles before the end of their assignments and those that most frequently filled a position with a candidate already in their database were twice as likely to report revenue gains last year and 50% more likely to expect gains in 2023. However, fewer than 10% of firms use automation to redeploy candidates.

Gretchen Keefner, SVP, Global Enterprise Business at Bullhorn, comments:

This year’s survey highlights a clear relationship between business performance and technology adoption. This makes a compelling case for firms to invest more in digital transformation to future-proof their businesses, despite economic challenges and uncertainty in the jobs market.”

“Acquiring new clients has once again become the top priority for recruitment firms, and it’s still crucial for firms to focus on delivering a more modern, personalized, and connected candidate experience because the talent market remains tight. Firms that use technology to increase their efficiency and provide a streamlined experience will set themselves apart from the competition.”
